Deputy names Ciaran Hale as Chief Technology Officer to drive AI

Today

Deputy has announced the appointment of Ciaran Hale as its new Chief Technology Officer.

Hale brings to Deputy significant experience in artificial intelligence, enterprise data platforms, and executing large-scale engineering transformations at well-known technology firms. His previous roles include CTO at Displayr, an Australian-based company in the market research sector, where he was responsible for leading cloud migration initiatives, enhancing developer productivity, and introducing generative AI capabilities.

Before joining Displayr, Hale spent time at Atlassian in senior engineering leadership roles, where he led teams in excess of 500 people and played a key role in launching Atlassian Analytics. This product enables businesses to gain deeper customer insights through connected data visualisation.

Silvija Martincevic, CEO of Deputy, highlighted the rationale behind the appointment. She said,

At Deputy, we've always believed that transformative technology leadership demands both bold vision and a deep commitment to delivering customer value. Ciaran is not just a technologist — he's a builder and a scaler. His track record in scaling teams, driving engineering culture, and launching AI-powered products makes him the ideal person to take our technology organisation to new heights. I'm thrilled to welcome him to our leadership team.

In his role as Chief Technology Officer, Hale will oversee the company's global engineering functions. He is expected to apply his expertise in cloud infrastructure, AI-driven product strategy, and organisational culture. Hale will work in close partnership with Deputy's product, data, and platform teams to enhance the company's technology foundations and deliver solutions tailored to the evolving needs of shift-based businesses worldwide.

Discussing his new position and the vision for his work at Deputy, Hale said,

Deputy is solving real, meaningful problems for millions of shift workers and the businesses that rely on them. What drew me to Deputy was not only the scale of the opportunity, but the company's clear commitment to quality, innovation, and impact. Having started my own career in shift work, I've seen firsthand the challenges faced by this essential workforce. That personal connection makes Deputy's mission deeply meaningful to me. I'm excited to help build the next generation of AI-powered products and platforms that serve shift workers around the world — and to do so alongside a world-class team.

Hale originates from Dublin, Ireland, and has spent the past 14 years living in Sydney, Australia. Outside of his professional career, he is keen on scuba diving and is an enthusiastic sports spectator, having dived at sites in Fiji as well as observing Grey Nurse Sharks in Sydney Harbour.

The announcement of Hale's appointment aligns with Deputy's ongoing efforts to expand its international footprint and increase its focus on automation, artificial intelligence, and data-led solutions. The company supports a substantial number of shift-based businesses by providing tools designed to help them manage labour compliance, scheduling, and operational efficiency.

Deputy currently serves over 1.5 million workers and 380,000 workplaces in more than 100 countries. The company's platform offers businesses access to real-time data and analytics, aiming to address the complex needs of hourly workplaces and support both compliance and employee engagement.
