OVHcloud unveils quantum & cloud innovations at summit

Mon, 2nd Dec 2024

OVHcloud, a European cloud service provider, has outlined its suite of innovations at the OVHcloud Summit, highlighting significant advancements in quantum computing, product development, and international expansion.

A major announcement is the launch of OVHcloud's Quantum Cloud service, which aims to facilitate quantum calculations on genuine quantum computers. This initiative will allow users to harness quantum processing rather than just simulated notebooks. In partnership with both European and American manufacturers, the first quantum computer, Pasqal, featuring 100 Qubits of quantum processing power, is expected to join the Quantum Cloud in 2025. By 2027, the company plans to incorporate up to six quantum computers into this cloud ecosystem.

Bare Metal Game Gen 3 servers have been introduced, offering advanced server-class technologies and ensuring long-term performance alongside Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) protection. Additionally, the firm's AI Endpoints platform now allows developers to access generic AI models for easier integration into applications.

In terms of international growth, the OVHcloud Milan 3-Availability Zone (AZ) region is projected for completion by the end of 2025, enhancing the company's capacity outside France. Concurrently, the company is contemplating the establishment of five more 3-AZ regions across Europe, North America, and the Asia-Pacific, bolstering its global standing and addressing the requirements for robust resilience.

Chief Executive Officer Benjamin Revcolevschi remarked on the company's strategic direction, stating, "Our roadmap for 2025 focuses on making new public cloud products available, consolidating our private cloud offering and making further investments in our sovereign products."

OVHcloud is also focusing on sovereign cloud offerings with its Bare Metals and On-Prem Cloud solutions, providing customers with increased control over their environments and data. The business has committed significant resources towards obtaining various certifications, including achieving and renewing the demanding SecNumCloud qualification in France for its different products and data centres. These certifications are designed to fortify the levels of data protection and security offered to customers.

The expansion of Hosted Private Cloud solutions has been announced, with new hyperconverged solutions and the availability of Public VMware Cloud Foundation as a Service. These additions are set to provide broader options of Nutanix servers and associated features.

As for the public cloud strategy, OVHcloud's Key Management Service (KMS) solution has been introduced, enabling enterprises to manage encryption keys from a central point, irrespective of cloud deployment. This KMS solution has received certifications verifying its compatibility with third-party suppliers.

In line with its customer-centric innovations, OVHcloud also detailed enhancements to its Bare Metal offering. This brings new AMD EPYC 4004 processors to their server range and announces forthcoming upgrades, including AMD Ryzen 9000 series and fifth-generation AMD EPYC processors.

Chief Product and Technology Officer Yaniv Fdida highlighted OVHcloud's continuous progress, describing ongoing Webcloud, Bare Metal, and Public Cloud developments. These initiatives aim to increase performance and resilience across their offerings.

Yaniv Fdida presented Webcloud improvements, along with planned wide rollout enhancements to support content creators through Managed WordPress Hosting set for testing in mid-2025.

The AI ecosystem is set to gain from OVHcloud's Data Platform and AI solutions, which now see the inclusion of new AMD GPU offerings, enhancing possibilities for AI model creators and users. Upcoming releases include the AMD Instinct MI325X GPU and the NVIDIA H200 NVL platform, aligning with OVHcloud's commitment to supporting sophisticated data analysis and artificial intelligence applications.

OVHcloud's focus on hyperconverged scenarios has resulted in new offerings to align with developments in the field from providers like Broadcom. This includes the Public VMware Cloud Foundation as a Service with additional options to be introduced over time.
