SenSen lands AUD $4.6m enforcement tech deal with Calgary

Thu, 12th Sep 2024

SenSen Networks has secured a five-year contract to provide vehicle-mounted and fixed lane mobile enforcement systems and software to The City of Calgary.

The contract has a first-year value of AUD $1.9 million (CAD $1.8 million) and a total contract value of AUD $4.6 million (CAD $4.2 million) over the five-year period. Additionally, it includes provisions for two potential two-year extensions, bringing the maximum possible contract length to nine years.

The agreement is subject to a proof-of-concept (POC) phase, which is set to begin in September and last approximately 11 weeks. This POC is part of the five-year contract term and will be followed by the replacement of both mobile and fixed camera systems across the city, contingent on successful completion of this phase. Termination provisions are included as standard in the contract.

SenSen's engagement with The City of Calgary dates back to 2016, making this new contract an extension of a long-standing relationship. The City issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) in early 2024, seeking submissions for a comprehensive upgrade of its vehicle monitoring and enforcement technology. Following a global search, SenSen was selected once again.

Commenting on the award, SenSen CEO Dr Subhash Challa said, "As a long-time SenSen customer, we are excited that Calgary continues to recognise the value in our technology as a powerful tool to optimise their kerbsides, make their streets more pedestrian-friendly and enable better use of its public spaces. This news affirms our land and expand strategy which has seen our momentum building rapidly across Canada's leading cities—most recently witnessed by our win in Montreal."

The scope of the contract includes the replacement of all existing hardware and software utilised by the city for mobile and fixed lane camera systems. This upgrade aims to enhance The City of Calgary's enforcement capabilities, facilitating improved traffic management and safety measures across the region.

The initial phase of the roll-out is scheduled to be completed in the second half of financial year 2025. The project is designed to cover the full spectrum of the city's system requirements, underscoring SenSen's comprehensive service provision capabilities.

The City of Calgary's decision to continue its relationship with SenSen underscores the strength and reliability of SenSen's technology. The company's solutions focus on creating safer and more efficient urban environments using AI and advanced data analytics. SenSen has been progressively building a presence in major cities across North America, including Chicago, Las Vegas, and Vancouver.

This contract win in Calgary further solidifies SenSen's position as a key player in the urban management and enforcement solutions market. By integrating AI-driven technology into public infrastructure, SenSen aims to alleviate traffic congestion, enhance road safety, and optimise the use of public spaces.

The City of Calgary, like many urban areas, faces ongoing challenges related to traffic management and public safety. The implementation of upgraded enforcement systems is expected to support city authorities in addressing these issues more effectively, leveraging real-time data and advanced analytics provided by SenSen's technology.

The announcement has been positively received by both parties, with expectations that the new systems will deliver significant improvements in operational efficiency and public safety outcomes. The continued partnership highlights the trust and confidence The City of Calgary has in SenSen as its technology provider.
