SugarCRM appoints David Roberts as new CEO amidst changes

Wed, 11th Sep 2024

SugarCRM has announced the appointment of David Roberts as its new Chief Executive Officer. This transition marks a planned succession for the company, as it celebrates twenty years in the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) industry. Roberts takes over from Craig Charlton, who will step into the role of Chairman of the Board.

Roberts brings extensive experience in the Software as a Service (SaaS) and technology sectors to SugarCRM. He previously served as CEO of Alchemer, a company known for its presence in the mid-market customer experience industry. He has also held senior leadership roles at ReedGroup and Accenture, where he was involved in CRM for over two decades. In his new role, Roberts will oversee SugarCRM’s global operations, aiming to expand market presence, enhance the product portfolio, and drive the adoption of SugarCRM’s AI-driven solutions among mid-market businesses worldwide.

On his new appointment, Roberts stated, "I am honoured to join SugarCRM at such an exciting time and lead the business in the next chapter of its journey. The company's commitment to helping organisations deliver exceptional customer experiences aligns perfectly with my own values and professional passions. I look forward to collaborating with Craig and the entire team at SugarCRM to drive our vision forward, expand our market impact, and deliver even greater value to our customers and partners."

This leadership change is intended to position SugarCRM for its next phase of growth and innovation. The outgoing CEO, Craig Charlton, expressed his confidence in Roberts’ capability to lead the company: "We are excited to welcome David as our new CEO. David’s proven track record of driving growth and innovation, along with a deep commitment to customer success, makes him the perfect choice to lead SugarCRM into the future. As I transition to the role of Chairman, I look forward to working closely with David and the rest of the board to support the company’s continued success."

Under Charlton’s leadership, SugarCRM made significant advancements, including the recent acquisition of sales-i to integrate revenue intelligence into its platform. This acquisition signifies the company's ongoing commitment to technology innovation, aiming to empower mid-market businesses through increased automation, data, and actionable intelligence.

Thousands of companies in over 120 countries use SugarCRM's platform, which the company says helps sales, marketing, and service professionals achieve peak efficiency. The platform is designed to provide a real-time, reliable view of each customer, utilising sales automation, marketing automation, and customer service solutions.

As Roberts steps into his new role, SugarCRM aims to accelerate its growth trajectory. The company is focused on continuing to deliver innovative solutions that meet the evolving needs of its customers. This strategic leadership change comes at a crucial time as the company seeks to build upon its existing success and explore new opportunities for expansion and customer engagement.
