SentinelOne has appointed Alex Stamos as its new Chief Information Security Officer (CISO). In his new position, Stamos will oversee SentinelOne's security engineering and operations teams, focusing on the development and delivery of secure systems for enterprises.

Stamos brings a wealth of experience to the role. His prior positions include Chief Security Officer at Meta and Chief Information Security Officer at Yahoo!. He joined SentinelOne in 2023 as Chief Trust Officer through the company's acquisition of the Krebs Stamos Group. Stamos has also served on various esteemed committees and advisory boards including the Aspen Institute's Cyber Security Task Force and the Department of Homeland Security's Cybersecurity Advisory Committee. Additionally, he is known for his involvement with the Bay Area CSO Council, the Council on Foreign Relations, and NATO's Collective Cybersecurity Center of Excellence. Currently, he also teaches cybersecurity and policy at Stanford University.

Ric Smith, Chief Product and Technology Officer at SentinelOne, highlighted the significance of Stamos' appointment amid increasing cyber threats. "In an era where state actors are targeting large cloud and security providers to gain access to the world's most important companies, security cannot be an afterthought. It has to come first," said Smith. "Tens of thousands of organisations rely on SentinelOne to keep their organisations safe. We have always believed that our ethical duty is to design products with a security-first mindset and uphold the highest standards in delivering them. Alex is the ideal person to lead and accelerate our efforts."

Stamos emphasised the need for trust and ethical responsibility in cybersecurity. "Organisations must be able to trust that their providers are focused on chasing adversaries, not dollars," he stated. "At SentinelOne, security is ingrained in every aspect of our operations. Unfortunately, upselling security and misleading customers has become an accepted part of the business model of huge enterprise software companies. I look forward to leading the team to set a new standard rooted in trust, transparency, and accountability that helps propel the industry forward."
