AVK appoints Sarah King to spearhead sustainability drive

Today

AVK has appointed Sarah King as its new Head of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to advance the company's sustainability and social responsibility initiatives across the data centre sector.

Sarah King joins the company with close to twenty years of experience in responsible business and social impact, having previously developed social impact strategies for organisations including bp and Anglo American. Her international experience spans Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East, with assignments for non-governmental organisations in Yemen and Afghanistan, focused on ethics, environmental sustainability, community development, and equality.

AVK has made sustainability a priority in its operations, offering energy-efficient and low-emission power systems to help data centres lower their environmental footprint. The company also pursues green energy efforts, committing to the adoption of renewables through technologies such as microgrids and hybrid power systems.

The firm works in collaboration with partners like Rolls-Royce and Wärtsilä to promote progress in sustainable power generation, reflecting an industry-wide momentum toward reducing carbon emissions and fostering green energy solutions throughout its business activities.

Sarah King's arrival at AVK comes amid a period of growth in sustainable practices in the data centre sector. Her commitment to minimising the environmental impact of business is matched by a focus on diversity in recruitment and empowering local communities. Her career includes leadership of social impact programmes aimed at delivering measurable and inclusive socio-economic results, advancing both environmental sustainability and community development.

AVK Chief Executive Officer Ben Pritchard commented on the appointment, stating: "I am truly excited about Sarah joining our team. Her vast experience and her approach to community development and DEI fit perfectly with AVK's strategic direction in terms of sustainability and being a responsible and ethical business. Sarah's commitment that we should always look to make the world a better place for future generations is in perfect synchronicity with our philosophy at AVK. I'm looking forward to seeing how Sarah's incredible background will enable her to strengthen our standing on ethical procurement in this sector and make sure that AVK continues to be an employer of choice."

Sarah King also shared her thoughts on the position, noting: "I'm excited to join AVK and lead the important work of creating lasting impact across communities tied to the data centre industry. What inspires me most is AVK's genuine commitment to doing things the right way—embedding sustainability at its core, not as a checkbox, but as a value-driven, long-term vision, growing this important work from its early stages.

"AVK is focused on more than business success—it's about creating shared value by supporting the environment, empowering communities, championing diversity, and advancing transformative STEM education and career pathways. By closing the skills gap and creating opportunities for those who might not otherwise have access, AVK is shaping a more inclusive, sustainable, and future-ready workforce. I'm proud to be part of a company that's not only on this journey but is determined to lead it with integrity and purpose."

AVK's approach includes active participation in reducing its carbon footprint and encouraging the use of renewable energy solutions across its projects in the critical power and data centre sectors.
