BlackLine unveils new AI agents to boost finance automation
BlackLine has announced an expansion of its artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities, including new AI agents designed to support financial operations.
The company stated that these expanded AI capabilities, including agentic AI features, are now integrated natively within the BlackLine platform. This integration delivers automation and intelligence across vital financial processes, specifically within the record-to-report and invoice-to-cash cycles.
According to BlackLine, the platform enhancements are aimed at helping customers accelerate time to value, enable teams to accomplish more with fewer resources, and perform tasks that would be challenging or impossible for humans at scale. These advancements are built on principles prioritising accuracy, efficiency, and intelligence, with a clear focus on supporting rather than replacing human decision-making.
Owen Ryan, Co-Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board at BlackLine, said, "For more than 20 years, BlackLine has been the trusted innovation partner for the Office of the CFO. Our differentiated AI approach helps customers accelerate time to value and make smarter decisions - without compromising data integrity. The Office of the CFO runs on trust, and trust begins with clean, reliable data. By ensuring data quality at the source, we empower CFOs to lead with speed, precision, and confidence."
BlackLine's expanded AI portfolio, including AI agents, aims to deliver measurable gains in speed, accuracy, and compliance for finance and accounting teams. The company highlighted several key customer benefits: AI agents that transform raw financial data into executive-ready insights, automated processes that reduce manual effort, and advanced anomaly detection that operates at a scale not achievable by humans alone.
Jeremy Ung, BlackLine's Chief Technology Officer, commented on the broader company vision, stating, "Our vision is to bring autonomous finance to every company in the world. We've built agentic AI that goes beyond automation—empowering customers to anticipate, decide, and act faster. Data is the new currency, and trusted insights are everything. With transparency, control, and auditability at the core, our AI delivers intelligence at scale. We believe Forrester's recent recognition of our AR Intelligence in their Top AI Use Cases for AR Automation in 2025 report affirms the strength of our approach."
Several AI-powered features are currently available across the BlackLine platform. These include a Document Description Summariser that automatically condenses document contents, a Journals Risk Analyser designed to flag anomalies and potential audit risks, and a Variance Automation & Footnote Generator that produces initial explanations and footnotes for financial reporting.
Other integrated capabilities include Summarisation Agents that turn financial statements into actionable insights, Intercompany Predictive Guidance to prevent transaction failures, and Accounts Receivable Payment Forecasting which uses machine learning to predict customer payment behaviours for improved cash flow accuracy.
Looking ahead, BlackLine plans to release additional agentic AI enhancements over the coming months. These upcoming features are slated to include Matching Agents to speed up and increase transparency in transaction matching, a Variance Anomaly Detection Agent for real-time variance identification and explanation recommendations, as well as Remittance Processing and AI-powered Summarisation & Translation Agents to further support accounts receivable functions.
