Ecommpay has added its Payment Links product to its offering for small businesses, targeting firms that often wait for payment after completing a job.

The product allows merchants to create a payment link from the Ecommpay dashboard and send it to customers by email, text message, WhatsApp or social media. Funds are typically received within one business day, subject to settlement terms.

Ecommpay is targeting small service businesses that do not usually take card payments at the point of sale, including tradespeople and sole operators who often invoice customers after work is completed. The tool is designed as a no-code option, removing the need for businesses to build their own payment pages.

Luke Pierce Ionides, Small Business Champion at Ecommpay, said the product addresses a common cash-flow problem for microbusinesses.

"If you think about the myriad micro-enterprises that don't accept credit card payments at the point of sale - from mobile hairdressers to building trades and even window cleaners - there's often a moment when they've done the job and then wait with bated breath for the customer to pay. It's not great for cash flow, and it's embarrassing to have to chase payment.

"With our Payment Links solution, integrated into the Ecommpay for Small Business service, the merchant can create a payment link and send it to the customer by email, text, WhatsApp or social media, so there's no reason for delay. Our recent survey[1] of UK consumers found that 55% of respondents cited payment links as a preferred payment method," said Ionides.

Consumer preference

Ecommpay cited a survey of 71 UK consumers who buy services from small business trades. In the survey, 55.48% said payment links were their preferred payment method, compared with 24.03% for bank transfer and 20.49% for QR code.

The product also reduces the need for merchants to collect bank or card details over the phone. The dashboard includes real-time status tracking, allowing businesses to see which invoices remain unpaid and send reminders.

Ecommpay for Small Businesses is available to UK-registered businesses selling goods or services online that have traded for at least six months, employ fewer than 10 people, and have annual revenue below €2 million. Applications are subject to identity checks, anti-money laundering screening and business assessment.

Founded in London in 2012, Ecommpay provides payment processing and acquiring services and supports more than 100 payment methods through a single API. The group is authorised in the UK by the Financial Conduct Authority to provide payment services.

Ecommpay said Payment Links can be used for both one-off and recurring customer payments. Merchants can generate links through the dashboard without requiring additional technical development.

The payment process takes customers to a hosted page where they can complete the transaction using available payment methods. Ecommpay said the approach can help small businesses reduce administrative work associated with collecting payments. The tracking features also give merchants visibility over payment activity after an invoice has been issued.

This allows businesses to identify outstanding payments without relying solely on manual follow-ups. The company said Payment Links are intended to complement existing payment methods rather than replace them. The service is part of Ecommpay's broader offering for smaller businesses seeking online payment infrastructure.

Eligibility requirements mean the service is focused on established UK small businesses that meet Ecommpay's trading and revenue criteria. The company expects the product to provide another way for service-based businesses to collect payments after completing work.
