Ecommpay earns RNIB recognition for inclusive workplace policies
Payments platform Ecommpay has been recognised as a Visibly Better Employer by the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB), following changes to its workplace policies to support employees with visual impairments. The accreditation puts Ecommpay among a small group of UK organisations acknowledged for improving accessibility and inclusivity for blind and partially sighted staff.
New employment standards
Only one in four registered blind and partially sighted people of working age in the UK is currently employed, with thousands actively seeking work. The RNIB Visibly Better Employer Standard identifies organisations committed to addressing barriers faced by these individuals. Ecommpay underwent a year-long review of its recruitment, workplace practice, training, and career development approaches, addressing 23 specific gaps identified during the process.
Miranda McLean, Chief Marketing Officer at Ecommpay, outlined key reforms: "We have made a number of important changes to ensure we are a more inclusive employer and can better support applicants and employees with sight loss and other impairments and disabilities."
Policy reforms
The company has implemented a series of measures over the past year targeting accessibility and equal opportunity. Adjustments include an accessibility statement, new policies on equal opportunities and flexible working, and updates to its recruitment strategy. Vacancy listings have been revised and office technology updated to support employees who require adjustments.
"In the past year, we have implemented an accessibility statement as well as new policies on equal opportunities, flexible working and reasonable adjustments. We have also adjusted the entire recruitment process, from the language used in vacancy listings to providing the necessary tech for adjustments in the office. Our inclusivity and accessibility mission is not just a sales and marketing tactic; we want to bring about real change, empowering anyone to join our team or access our payment solutions," said McLean.
Ongoing initiatives
In addition to changes for staff with visual impairment, Ecommpay has relaunched its brand, website, and payments platform with a focus on inclusivity. The business continues to invest in workplace improvements through its Ecommpay for Good programme. It is also introducing a Health Adjustment Passport and Carers Passport for all employees to facilitate conversations about workplace adjustments and caring responsibilities.
Accreditation impact
The RNIB accreditation means the company now joins around 60 UK employers recognised for creating working environments accessible to people with sight loss. Alongside this, Ecommpay aligns its digital services to WCAG guidelines for accessibility. The business states it is committed to maintaining and expanding its inclusivity policies and support tools.
"For Ecommpay, inclusion isn't an afterthought; it is built into all aspects of the business," added Miranda McLean. "We align to the WCAG guidelines to ensure all our services are accessible, and now we are proud to have gained this important new accreditation from the RNIB to demonstrate to potential employees that they are welcome and valued at Ecommpay."
