Ecommpay has launched a self-serve payments platform for UK small businesses, targeting online merchants with annual revenue below €2 million.

The service is aimed at UK-registered businesses that have been trading for at least six months, including sellers using WooCommerce and custom-built websites. Pricing starts at 1.30% plus 20p per UK transaction, with no monthly fee or minimum commitment.

Ecommpay, which has focused on larger clients since launching in 2012, is using the new platform to expand into the small business segment. It has adapted parts of its existing payments infrastructure for merchants that may not have in-house developers or the transaction volumes needed to negotiate a wider choice of providers.

The service includes a hosted payment page, card payments through Visa and Mastercard, Apple Pay and Google Pay, payment links for social commerce and business-to-business orders, recurring payments, and a single dashboard designed to reduce the need for merchants to juggle multiple payment tools.

Direct plugins are available for WooCommerce, Magento 2 and Xero users. Merchants with custom-built websites can connect through an application programming interface, which typically requires one to three days of developer time.

According to Ecommpay, the hosted payment page is brandable and has been accredited for accessibility by the Digital Accessibility Centre. Merchants without a developer can configure the no-code checkout from the dashboard and go live within hours after onboarding, while eligible merchants can go live within a day.

Small business focus

The launch reflects a wider push by payment providers to reach smaller online sellers with simplified onboarding, lower upfront costs, and more pre-built integrations. Micro businesses and smaller retailers often rely on basic checkout tools or marketplace platforms, particularly when they lack specialist payments staff or technical teams.

Ecommpay says its small business offering uses the same risk management, transaction routing, and fraud systems as its enterprise service. It argues that smaller businesses have had fewer options when looking for checkout-focused payment products without volume thresholds.

"For many small businesses, despite having a great product or idea, the payment process offered to customers can be a barrier to success," said Max Ryzhov, Chief Product Officer at Ecommpay.

"Enterprise-quality payment infrastructure is out of reach unless they are processing at scale, which may result in higher decline rates or elevated per-transaction costs. The lack of developer resources in these businesses also limits their options to optimise checkout performance," Ryzhov said.

Broader move

As part of the package, Ecommpay has also added a 24/7 AI assistant inside the merchant portal. The tool can answer questions on pricing, integration, switching, and account setup, with escalation to human support.

The offer is available only to eligible UK online businesses, and applications remain subject to identity verification, anti-money laundering screening, and business assessment. Not all applicants will be accepted.

Ryzhov said the launch is intended to widen the options available to smaller merchants running their own checkouts.

"With Ecommpay for Small Businesses, we are actively tackling these issues. We have taken the same risk management, smart routing and fraud infrastructure we operate for enterprise clients to create a solution for micro enterprises at a competitive rate starting from 1.30% + 20p per UK transaction, with no monthly fee or minimum commitment," he said.

He added: "UK small businesses running their own online checkout have only had limited choice to date. We are challenging that with Ecommpay for Small Businesses."
