Eskimo has partnered with Triple-A to accept stablecoin payments for its eSIM plans, adding a new payment option for customers.

Customers buying Eskimo's mobile data plans can now pay with stablecoins at checkout. The arrangement lets Eskimo offer that option without handling conversion, custody or compliance itself.

Eskimo sells reusable data-only eSIMs for travellers and offers service in 175 countries. It says it has more than one million users worldwide and offers both unlimited and fixed data plans, with some fixed plans carrying no expiry on unused data.

eSIMs have become a common tool for international travellers who want mobile data access without changing physical SIM cards or paying roaming charges. Eskimo's model centres on a single installed eSIM that customers can continue using across multiple trips.

Stablecoins are digital assets designed to maintain a steady value, usually by being linked to a fiat currency. Their use in consumer payments has drawn growing interest from travel and online commerce groups looking for alternatives to card-based checkout.

For Eskimo, the addition reflects a broader shift in how digitally focused consumers want to pay for services bought online. The company is targeting travellers who already manage much of their journey through apps and digital platforms.

"International travellers increasingly expect every part of their journey to be flexible and seamless, from getting connected abroad to paying for the services they use. By working with Triple-A, we can give our customers another convenient way to purchase travel data while keeping the checkout experience simple," said Dennis Lee, Chief Executive Officer, Eskimo.

Triple-A provides payment services built around stablecoins and digital currencies. It says it serves more than 1,000 business customers globally and operates across the United States, Europe and Singapore.

Travel payments

The partnership places Eskimo among a growing number of travel-related businesses testing digital currency payment options. Triple-A has also worked with companies in the sector, including travel booking platform Wego.

The expansion comes as travel companies consider how to accommodate customers who prefer digital wallets and alternative payment methods. For merchants, one attraction is the ability to add crypto-linked payment options through a specialist provider rather than build the infrastructure internally.

Triple-A's role includes managing the operational side of stablecoin transactions for merchant clients, including conversion, custody and compliance requirements.

Eskimo's offering is aimed at travellers who often buy connectivity on short notice and from abroad. In those cases, payment flexibility can be both a practical and commercial issue, especially when customers are transacting across borders.

Users can buy and manage data through Eskimo's app or website, and the service also supports data transfers between eligible users. Its focus on a reusable eSIM and non-expiring fixed plans is intended to appeal to repeat travellers who want to avoid setting up a new mobile data product for each journey.

Triple-A's Chief Executive Officer has linked the rise of eSIMs to changes in payment behaviour among frequent international travellers.

"eSIMs, in a very short period of time, have fundamentally changed travelers' expectations of how quickly and easily they can get online when abroad. The same rapid change is also underway when it comes to the way these digitally native travelers now demand a seamless payment method, such as stablecoins," said Eric Barbier, Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Triple-A.
