LearnUpon has launched an Agentic Learning Platform for corporate training and development, introducing an AI-based model it says goes beyond the traditional learning management system.

The Dublin-based learning software provider said the platform is built around LearnUpon IQ, an intelligence layer spanning learner profiles, content management and course delivery. It also includes an open-protocol MCP server that lets organisations connect external AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini to their learning data.

The platform is designed to automate administrative workflows while keeping oversight with human teams. LearnUpon describes the model as "human-leading-the-loop", with AI agents handling routine processes and learning leaders setting direction and governance.

The launch reflects a wider debate in workplace technology over the role of artificial intelligence in employee development. Across the learning software market, suppliers have increasingly sought to reposition training systems as tools more closely tied to skills, workforce planning and operational data.

LearnUpon argued that many existing learning systems remain heavily administrative and absorb too much staff time. Traditional software, it said, can leave professionals spending up to 80% of their day managing systems rather than focusing on workforce development.

"We didn't want to just rush another AI tool to market and ask learning teams to operate on blind trust," said Brendan Noud, Chief Executive Officer, LearnUpon.

"By taking a modular, 'human-leading-the-loop' approach, we are giving organisations the transparency and control that other platforms miss. The Agentic Learning Platform moves human input higher up the value chain, liberating L&D teams to do what they do best: building genuine human capability and driving strategic business growth," said Noud.

Three hubs

The new platform is structured around three main components. Its Profile Hub tracks skills and capability gaps using live performance signals and updates learner profiles as work patterns change, according to LearnUpon.

A second component, the Content Hub, is designed to automate the management and creation of learning materials. Tools including Create+ and an Agentic Editor can be used to produce interactive courses and refresh content through conversational AI, the company said.

The third element, the Delivery Hub, is intended to place learning in the flow of work rather than requiring employees to search for training in a separate system. LearnUpon said it can use real-time signals to surface contextual learning through its Ask Lia assistant or through an automated Journey Agent that launches personalised learning paths.

The MCP server is a notable part of the product design because it reflects growing interest in open connections between enterprise software and third-party AI systems. LearnUpon said it allows teams to pull reporting insights into their preferred AI workspace while maintaining secure access to organisational learning data.

That suggests the company wants its platform to sit within a broader software environment rather than function as a closed training system. The move also places LearnUpon among software providers seeking to make proprietary business data usable through external generative AI tools.

Des Anderson, Chief Technology Officer and Co-Founder at LearnUpon, said the traditional LMS model no longer meets the needs of many employers and linked the new design to a push for more flexible, modular systems.

"Sticking strictly to the traditional blueprint of an LMS is no longer enough to support the modern workforce," said Des Anderson, Chief Technology Officer and Co-Founder, LearnUpon.

"Technology must actively work for our customers, not the other way around. By transitioning to a modular, agentic architecture-built on a single intelligence layer and three specialized hubs-we are fulfilling the long-awaited promise of hyper-personalised learning at scale while permanently removing the administrative friction that has historically held L&D teams back," said Anderson.

Customer input

LearnUpon said the product was developed with customer and industry input, supported by its own research into operational challenges in workplace learning. The company did not disclose financial terms or customer numbers linked to the launch.

One customer cited in connection with the launch was Premium Retail Services. The retailer's learning team said it had already used LearnUpon products including Learning Journeys and Create+ as part of its skills strategy work.

"LearnUpon's vision for an Agentic Learning Platform aligns with where we see the future of learning and workforce development. Learning Journeys and Create+ have already helped us accelerate how we develop and deliver learning, and we're excited to build on that foundation as we launch our skills strategy. It's been rewarding to collaborate through the Customer Advisory Board and help shape capabilities that connect learning, skills, and AI in ways that deliver real business value," said Hovestadt.
