Mark Appel joins Sendcloud as Chief Marketing Officer
Thu, 14th Mar 2024

Sendcloud, Europe's premier shipping platform, has recently declared the appointment of Mark Appel as the new Chief Marketing Officer (CMO). Appel will pioneer the company's global marketing efforts, supporting its objective to address global shipping challenges. Recognised as one of the top 100 marketers in the Netherlands, his arrival represents a significant asset as the firm seeks to navigate an increasingly competitive e-commerce environment.

Sendcloud provides a comprehensive shipping solution for e-commerce, as the platform allows retailers, marketplaces, and fulfilment companies to develop their operations whilst delivering outstanding shipping experiences. As consumer requirements evolve, online retailers have to flexibly adapt and offer diverse delivery options. In fact, a recent study by Sendcloud emphasises this necessity, suggesting that 73% of consumers prioritise selecting specific delivery times whilst 55% prefer the option to modify their delivery preferences even after a shipment has been dispatched.

Rob van den Heuvel, CEO of Sendcloud, highlights the evolving demands of consumers saying: "Consumers are increasingly demanding, expecting to be able to decide where, when, and how to receive a parcel." He went on to note that "without the correct shipping software, it becomes a difficult task for retailers to offer this level of flexibility." It's in view of this, Van den Heuvel expressed confidence that Appel's vast marketing experience with leading SaaS companies will be instrumental in promoting Sendcloud's growth.

With a career spanning over 30 years in B2B sales and marketing, Appel's proven success and experience in SaaS solutions brings considerable momentum to Sendcloud's operations. Previously holding the role of CMO in companies such as Exact, CM.com, and Backbase, Appel demonstrated his ability to amplify revenue growth and brand building. Appreciably, he played a crucial role in spearheading successful SaaS transitions, thereby catalysing business growth through the introduction of demand generation and marketing automation initiatives.

Commenting on his appointment, Appel affirms: "Together with merchants and carriers, which are at the core of our platform, we have a unique opportunity to elevate the delivery experience for end-consumers. Given Sendcloud's huge market potential and its so-called no-bullshit culture, the decision to join its mission to solve shipping globally was an easy one." He acknowledged the significance of marketing in capitalising on consumer trends towards flexible delivery and expressed his readiness to employ his expertise in demand generation and brand building to assist in this regard.

With Sendcloud's resolute mission to solve shipping globally, supported by Softbank and used by 25,000 companies across Europe, the appointment of Mark Appel will undoubtedly be a valuable addition to their continued growth in the naturally complex e-commerce landscape.
