Yesterday

Markel has implemented Guidewire Cloud to modernise its claims and IT operations, signaling a shift from an on-premise system to a cloud-based infrastructure.

Markel, which operates within the Markel Group, teamed up with Guidewire and PwC to successfully migrate its Guidewire ClaimCenter to Guidewire Cloud for its specialty lines in the U.S. PwC, a Global Strategic member of Guidewire's PartnerConnect Consulting, led the implementation project. The insurer also plans to migrate its Guidewire BillingCenter to the cloud, and Markel International has chosen ClaimCenter for its International Wholesale operation.

Morris Taylor, Chief Information Officer at Markel, remarked, "Migrating ClaimCenter onto Guidewire Cloud enables us to automate and transfer system maintenance and updates to Guidewire so our teams can increase their focus on delivering value to our customers and partners." He further highlighted the collaborative efforts between Markel, PwC, and Guidewire that contributed to the project's success, saying, "Our successful transition to Guidewire Cloud underscores our confidence in Guidewire's cloud-based offering and innovations."

Jamie Carsey, Chief Claims Officer at Markel, underscored the improvements in customer service resulting from the migration, stating, "The successful implementation of Guidewire ClaimCenter, combined with the migration to Guidewire Cloud, not only modernises our claims organisation, but improves the customer experience, making it faster and easier to process claims for our clients." He emphasised the access to enhanced data and insights that drive informed business decisions.

Chris O'Shea, Managing Director of Markel International Claims, expressed satisfaction with the collaboration, stating, "We're therefore delighted to be collaborating with Guidewire to implement ClaimCenter across our International Wholesale platform." He mentioned the implementation as a part of Markel's long-term commitment to investing in technology to enhance service and response times globally, saying, "Implementing Guidewire ClaimCenter will further enhance our ability to deliver a timely, clear and consistent service throughout the claims lifecycle."

Imran Ilyas, Global & US Guidewire Alliance Leader at PwC, praised the implementation, noting, "This move not only enhances their operational agility but also positions them to seamlessly integrate cutting-edge solutions." This collaboration is expected to offer Markel's clients real-time capabilities and support rapid implementation of new technologies.

Michael Mahoney, Senior Vice President of Professional Services at Guidewire, congratulated Markel on the successful migration, stating, "We thank Markel for entrusting Guidewire Cloud as the technology foundation for its business strategy and success now and into the future." He expressed anticipation for continued support for Markel's mission to offer tailored coverage solutions.

Markel, a long-standing customer of Guidewire, has also implemented Guidewire Compare and Guidewire Explore to monitor claims performance against industry peers and enhance operational efficiency.

Will McAllister, Senior Vice President and Managing Director of EMEA at Guidewire, commented, "We are delighted to further grow our relationship with Markel, specifically as a partner in the London Market." He highlighted the potential benefits of a rapidly evolving SAAS platform to Markel's operations.

Jamie McDonnell, London Market lead at Guidewire, reflected on the modernisation within the London Market, stating, "We are dedicated to helping insurers navigate and execute core technology modernisation so that it can be the foundation on which their business can grow and thrive." He noted the market correction with an accelerating modernisation across claims and underwriting in the region.
