MKSK Consulting has launched FormulaX for Oracle Cloud HCM, which it describes as the first AI Fast Formula generator for the software suite.
FormulaX is designed to turn plain-English descriptions of business rules into validated Fast Formulas for Oracle Cloud HCM, which uses the formula language across payroll, absence accruals, benefits eligibility and workforce compensation rules.
The Oxford-based consultancy said the tool is part of its X Cloud Platform, alongside ScheduleX, a work scheduling product for Oracle Cloud HCM. Both were developed after consultants encountered recurring delays in client programmes caused by specialist formula work and large-scale schedule building.
Fast Formulas are a core part of Oracle Cloud HCM, but creating and maintaining them often requires scarce technical expertise. A business rule may be simple to describe in a policy document, yet still take days to convert into a correct formula. Inherited formulas can also be difficult for teams to interpret later.
MKSK said FormulaX is intended to shorten that process by generating formulas from plain English or policy wording, explaining existing formulas line by line, validating structure and syntax, and managing formula libraries through versioning, change history and workspaces.
The tool also asks users follow-up questions on points such as timing, effective dates and exceptions before generating a formula. It then produces readable code, an explanation of the logic and test cases for review.
Target users
According to MKSK, early use cases are likely to centre on the rules that consume the most specialist time during Oracle Cloud HCM projects. These include overtime and shift premiums, absence accruals and eligibility, bonus and commission rules, and more complex logic involving historical data and assignment-based conditions.
FormulaX supports several Fast Formula types within Oracle Cloud HCM, including Payroll, Absence and Eligibility, Benefits, Workforce Compensation, Validation and Custom Business Rules.
In live demonstrations, functional consultants have used the product to produce formulas that would previously have required a technical developer, the consultancy said. In those demonstrations, formula development time fell by 60 to 80 per cent, reducing turnaround from days to hours, although specialist review remained part of the process.
Specialist bottleneck
The launch reflects wider pressure on HR technology teams to reduce dependency on a small pool of technical specialists in enterprise software projects. Formula work often sits at the centre of payroll and benefits configuration, making delays costly if errors emerge only during testing or in a pay run.
That increases the value of tools that move more of the initial drafting and checking process closer to business and functional teams, while keeping final judgement with experienced reviewers.
Mohammed Khan made that case when discussing the product launch.
"Every Oracle HCM team knows the formula bottleneck. The rule is usually clear in the policy. The slow part is turning it into a correct Fast Formula, proving it does what the business meant, and understanding it again six months later when it needs to change. FormulaX was built to remove that delay. Describe the requirement in plain English, generate the formula, read the explanation, validate it, and keep specialist review for the judgement calls rather than the typing," said Mohammed Khan, Director, Oracle Division, MKSK Consulting.
Company focus
MKSK specialises in Oracle Cloud HCM consulting and said its consultants support organisations across 200 countries and jurisdictions. Its X Cloud Platform groups software tools developed from problems encountered in implementation work.
ScheduleX, the other product in the platform, is aimed at designing, validating and bulk loading complex work patterns into Oracle Cloud HCM. FormulaX extends that product strategy into formula development, explanation and checking.
The consultancy said the new tool is available now and has framed its sales approach around live demonstrations using a customer's own formula requirements. Users can bring a Fast Formula they would normally hand to a developer and watch it being generated, reviewed and compiled in Oracle Cloud HCM.
