Portman Partners invests in new data centre recruitment service

Wed, 9th Apr 2025

Portman Partners has announced a strategic investment in Flint DC, a new recruitment service aimed at addressing the hiring needs of the data centre industry.

The data centre sector is currently reliant on traditional contingent recruitment models, which are not meeting industry demands. "The data centre industry is predicted to be powering up the future but it is failing to find and attract the right talent to build it today," says Mike Meyer, Managing Partner of Portman Partners. Meyer points out that current processes, coupled with emerging recruiters lacking industry knowledge and an influx of unsuitable applicants, pose risks to businesses in the sector.

To tackle these challenges, Portman Partners is deploying its expertise in the industry to launch Flint DC, a service designed to offer a tailored recruitment solution. Flint DC's service, branded as Contingent+, merges traditional contingent recruitment terms with specialised search methodologies usually applied to head-hunting or niche roles. It proposes to deliver essential talent speedily and effectively, using a method focused on agility.

"Flint is born out of the demand for a better approach to hiring in the data centre industry," explains Meyer. He reflects on his 30 years of experience in data centres, observing repeated frustrations with existing systems. "We want to change the way things were done," he asserts.

Meyer further clarifies the intent behind the Contingent+ model: "With Flint DC and the Contingent+ model, we're taking everything that makes Portman successful in stealth executive search - our specialised knowledge, our global reach, and our no-nonsense approach - and building an agile recruitment model that delivers the right results for all hiring levels. We're not just another recruitment firm. We're the solution our clients have been asking for."

Paul Cutliffe, Managing Director of Flint DC, comments on the implications of this new model: "We are offering a Contingent+ model that streamlines hiring while ensuring quality, speed, and alignment with the unique needs of data centre businesses. I am passionate about helping businesses find high-calibre candidates who are a good cultural fit and will enable transformational change. I am looking forward to supporting our clients as they power on into the future."

Portman Partners' investment in Flint DC highlights its ongoing commitment to addressing hiring challenges within the industry, enhancing support for businesses seeking top talent. The introduction of Flint DC is set to redefine recruitment strategies within the rapidly evolving data centre sector.
