Qubitra plots quantum push for finance & marketplace
Standard Chartered's innovation unit SC Ventures and Fujitsu have set out a product roadmap for Qubitra Technologies, a London-headquartered joint venture focused on quantum computing applications and a marketplace platform for the quantum ecosystem.
The companies said Qubitra will operate in the UK and will work across financial services and other sectors. The venture previously ran as an incubation effort called Project Quanta before adopting the Qubitra name.
Qubitra plans to sell proprietary quantum-enabled applications and run a marketplace that links quantum software and hardware providers with institutional users. The companies said early deployments already cover fraud detection, derivatives pricing and financial markets trading.
Two pillars
The venture's first pillar centres on building quantum-enabled applications for financial use cases. The companies said these products will use quantum and quantum-inspired approaches. They also described plans to keep the software compatible with future quantum hardware developments.
Initial implementations are underway with financial institutions, hedge funds and family offices, according to the roadmap. The companies said the first go-live is expected in early 2026.
The second pillar is a marketplace platform. Qubitra said it will connect quantum software providers, quantum hardware providers and end users. The companies described the platform as a place for users to experiment, test and deploy solutions across the "full quantum stack".
Qubitra said the platform will include its own applications as well as third-party offerings. It also plans a usage-based compensation model and support for open-source collaboration.
The companies said Qubitra is in discussions with quantum software and hardware providers about joining the platform. They also said the marketplace will include access to Fujitsu's quantum hardware, Fujitsu's Digital Annealer and Fujitsu's proprietary quantum applications.
Qubitra plans to launch an MVP with a pilot group of users in 2026, with a full launch later.
Leadership team
Qubitra's founding leadership team includes executives with backgrounds in banking, venture building and quantum-related research. The team will be based in the UK and the company will run from London.
Vishal Shete will serve as Chief Executive Officer. Qubitra said Shete previously worked as a Managing Director at Terra Quantum and held senior roles across financial services and management consulting.
Daniel Wynne will serve as Chief Operating Officer. Qubitra said Wynne previously served as founding COO at Carbonplace and has experience across banking and capital markets.
Kugendran Naidoo will serve as Chief Scientific Officer. Qubitra said Naidoo joins from J.P. Morgan and previously spent eight years at IBM in advanced research leadership roles.
Focus areas
Quantum computing has drawn strong interest from financial services firms, particularly for complex optimisation and modelling tasks. Many projects remain in research stages. Qubitra's roadmap describes a push towards production deployments and a structured partner ecosystem.
Vishal Shete set out the company's positioning in a statement.
"Our mission at Qubitra is to turn quantum innovation into business impact by combining high-performance applications with a collaborative ecosystem that advances the industry," said Vishal Shete, CEO, Qubitra Technologies.
SC Ventures said the joint venture will draw on Fujitsu's quantum technology.
"We use modern and at times frontier technologies to re-invent financial services: Qubitra, with access to Fujitsu's quantum soft and hardware, will leverage quantum technology across a number of use cases to rewire the DNA in banking and beyond," said Alex Manson, CEO, SC Ventures.
Fujitsu highlighted specific application areas and the use of hybrid approaches that span quantum and quantum-inspired systems.
"Qubitra's applications for financial institutions, in the areas of fraud detection, derivatives pricing and in financial markets trading, will utilise novel machine learning and optimisation techniques which harness the latest quantum and quantum inspired computing devices. Qubitra is already working with financial institutions including Standard Chartered Bank, to deploy advanced solutions in these areas. These approaches are designed to deliver measurable improvements over conventional methods used today, paving the way for broader adoption of quantum technologies in financial services and beyond," said Vivek Mahajan.
The companies said Qubitra will expand global partnerships and its ecosystem during 2026 and beyond, with work spanning quantum computing, AI and financial services.
