SymphonyAI has launched Symphony Risk Intelligence for financial crime compliance teams. The platform is designed to support continuous compliance monitoring as risks and regulations change.

The product uses AI agents to handle detection, triage, investigation and reporting, while maintaining human oversight and an audit trail for decisions. It is intended to work alongside existing systems rather than replace them.

The launch comes as new research from SymphonyAI and AML Intelligence points to heavy reliance on manual processes across the sector. According to the findings, only 4.7% of financial institutions continuously update compliance monitoring and controls as risks change, while 76.3% still review alerts manually or with only partial automation.

That gap matters as regulators in several major markets push firms to respond more quickly to shifting threats, new rules and changing customer risk. Financial institutions are also dealing with expanding payment channels, new financial products and criminal tactics that can move faster than scheduled compliance reviews.

Compliance shift

SymphonyAI is pitching the platform around what it calls "Always-on Compliance," a model that shifts institutions from periodic reviews to continuous reassessment of risk and controls. In practice, the system is designed to identify changes in regulations, policy, threats and customer risk, then direct work based on those changes rather than a fixed timetable.

Governance is built into that process. Institutions can define boundaries for what each agent is permitted to do and set levels of human involvement ranging from partial oversight to fully autonomous operation.

John Edison, President of SymphonyAI Financial Services, described the launch as a response to long-standing weaknesses in financial crime controls.

"Financial crime compliance has reached the limits of static, episodic approaches to managing risk," Edison said.

"Always-on Compliance, delivered through our Symphony Risk Intelligence platform, is how we help institutions continuously operationalize financial crime controls, institutional judgment and governed agentic orchestration in response to evolving threats, regulatory changes and new policies. SymphonyAI has spent 25 years working alongside some of the world's most complex financial institutions, and SRI brings that experience together with a new generation of intelligence and governed AI to help our customers and partners make that shift real," he said.

Market backdrop

SymphonyAI framed the launch against a broader overhaul in anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing oversight. It cited reforms and tighter supervision in the United States, the European Union, Australia and Singapore as signs that institutions face growing pressure to modernise monitoring and controls.

Firms can deploy the platform in a single area or across broader operations such as end-to-end transaction monitoring. SymphonyAI also said the approach can help reduce manual work, cut alert volumes and improve audit readiness.

Work with large financial institutions has produced up to 80% fewer false positives, 70% faster case resolution and a sixfold increase in investigator productivity, according to SymphonyAI. It did not identify the institutions involved.

Sid Dash, Chief Researcher at Chartis, said the platform reflects a wider change in how financial crime technology is being built.

"SymphonyAI's new platform/framework recasts the workflows, data management and analytics in financial crime and risk intelligence from an AI-native perspective," Dash said.

"Leveraging its experience in developing its portfolio of solutions and its strong investment in core AI technology, SymphonyAI is transforming the ways financial institutions and services providers build solutions, whether enterprise, departmental or specific point solutions, to solve their financial crime, compliance and decisioning challenges," he said.

The launch also follows recent recognition from industry research groups. SymphonyAI said it ranked in the top third of Chartis Research's RiskTech100 2027 for a second straight year and received a category award for agentic compliance platforms. It also said Forrester named it a leader in financial crime management solutions in its third-quarter 2026 assessment, where the company received the highest combined strategy and offering score among 15 vendors evaluated.

For banks and other financial institutions, the central question will be whether tools like Symphony Risk Intelligence can reduce dependence on labour-intensive reviews without weakening accountability. SymphonyAI said every decision made through the platform carries a full audit trail and can be reviewed by humans.
