Targa Telematics has received Frost & Sullivan's 2026 Europe Competitive Strategy Leadership Recognition in fleet management and insurance telematics.

In its annual benchmarking process, Frost & Sullivan said the company scored strongly for strategy effectiveness and execution. The research and consulting firm also rated its performance in innovation, strategy execution and customer-focused digital transformation as outstanding.

The recognition highlights a sector in which software providers are competing for long-term contracts from fleet operators, insurers and mobility groups seeking to connect vehicles, analyse data and integrate telematics systems with existing technology estates.

Frost & Sullivan analysts pointed to the company's use of standardised application programming interfaces, saying this allows customers to connect the platform to existing IT infrastructure and third-party systems. In turn, users can adapt current systems rather than replace them outright.

The assessment also cited Targa Telematics' integration with original equipment manufacturer systems, its consultative approach with customers and its ability to deliver measurable business results. Those factors are increasingly important in European telematics, where buyers often want software that works across mixed vehicle fleets and legacy systems.

Expansion strategy

Targa Telematics has built its business around digital products for connected mobility, serving rental companies, financial groups and large fleets. Its services include insurance telematics, asset and fleet management, diagnostics, remote vehicle telemetry, and systems for professional vehicles, construction site vehicles and airport vehicles.

The company has also used acquisitions to broaden its reach. Frost & Sullivan highlighted the integration of Viasat Group as part of a wider growth plan focused on artificial intelligence in mobility, ecosystem integration and international expansion.

The acquisition expanded Targa Telematics' footprint across several European markets and added to its technology base. The group now operates in Italy, England, France, Spain, Portugal, Belgium, Poland, Romania and Chile, and says it can support international projects with local teams.

Europe's telematics market has become more crowded as vehicle manufacturers, insurers and software specialists all seek a larger role in connected mobility. In that environment, interoperability and the ability to work with multiple third-party systems have become important selling points, particularly for fleet customers wary of replacing established back-office platforms.

Targa Telematics said its customer model includes consultative engagement, round-the-clock operational support and configurable software. Frost & Sullivan's review suggested this service structure has strengthened the company's position in a market where onboarding and ongoing system support can affect contract retention as much as product features.

Carlo Stefanelli, Chief Technology Officer at Targa Telematics, commented on the company's technology approach.

"Our technology empowers our customers to harness the full potential of AIoT in their daily operations. By combining Artificial Intelligence, IoT, and a cloud-native composable platform, we give our customers the tools to truly optimise their products and operations - turning data into real, measurable value in months, not years," said Carlo Stefanelli, Chief Technology Officer at Targa Telematics.

For Frost & Sullivan, the award forms part of a broader best practices programme that compares companies across regional and global markets on leadership, innovation, customer experience and strategic product development. The organisation said its recognitions are based on interviews, market analysis and secondary research.

Targa Telematics has operated in telematics and connected mobility for more than 25 years. Alongside fleet and insurance applications, the company also develops IoT platforms for short-term and long-term rental operators, a customer base that continues to digitise vehicle usage, maintenance and risk management processes.

The group said Viasat is now an integral part of the business, underscoring how consolidation is shaping parts of the European telematics sector. As operators and insurers seek broader platforms and cross-border coverage, scale and integration remain central competitive factors.
