Waracle acquires HackSoft to boost workforce and digital expertise
UK digital project consultancy Waracle has acquired HackSoft, a Sofia-based software consultancy, as part of a strategy to build capabilities across product, web development, and data services for clients in financial services, energy, healthcare, and the public sector.
Geographic expansion
This marks Waracle's first expansion beyond its home market, establishing a presence in a prominent European technology hub. With the integration of HackSoft's 55-person team, the combined workforce now numbers around 265 employees.
Waracle's growth plan has focused on complementing existing technical strengths with additional expertise. The acquisition provides access to new talent and extends delivery capacity for international clients. HackSoft is known locally for delivering project leadership, software development, and knowledge-sharing through its in-house training academy.
Growth priorities
David Tuck, CEO of Waracle, said the company's approach to growth involves integrating culturally similar teams with shared values. Waracle and HackSoft previously collaborated on a major client engagement, which both companies cite as evidence of alignment in terms of culture and business philosophy.
"Our growth plans are ambitious and a key part of our strategy has been to find a talented team with technical capabilities that complement our own. We worked with Hacksoft for several months on a strategic client engagement, so we know first-hand our cultures align - we share similar values based on fostering a strong, inclusive culture and are both committed to being a trusted partner for our clients. HackSoft's culture, technical talent, commitment to open source, and its impressive track record with its training academy makes it a fantastic addition to the Waracle team," said Tuck, CEO, Waracle.
Focus on clients
HackSoft, which launched in 2017, has established a presence in Europe for its services to over 40 clients in industries including finance and energy. The Bulgarian company offers expertise in Django and open-source best practices. The move enables HackSoft's team to access larger and more complex projects while extending Waracle's service offering and delivery base further into Europe.
Radoslav Georgiev, co-founder and CEO of HackSoft, emphasised the opportunity for HackSoft's employees and future growth.
"Joining Waracle is an incredible opportunity for the HackSoft team. We have always aimed to be more than just developers; we strive to be true partners in our clients' success. In Waracle, we have found a partner that not only shares our vision but can also provide a platform for greater growth and more complex, exciting challenges for our team. We are thrilled to begin this next chapter and expand our impact together," said Georgiev, CEO, HackSoft.
Team integration
The combined business will remain active across its core sectors. Waracle operates out of offices in London, Glasgow, Edinburgh, and Dundee, with HackSoft's team continuing to work from Sofia. The integration also builds on HackSoft's track record in developer training and open-source contribution.
Mike Wharton, CTO and founder at Waracle, highlighted the compatibility between the two groups in terms of technical skills and culture. "Waracle has been about doing great work with great people since day one. Working with HackSoft has been exceptional; they're a dedicated team of talented engineers who truly care about their craft and their people. It's a natural fit and a huge win for both our teams and our clients," said Wharton.
