Accenture has acquired UK customer intelligence firm Sagacity, adding more than 140 specialists to Accenture Song in the UK and Ireland.

Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Sagacity is a London-based business founded in 2005 by Anita Dougall, Malka Townshend and Harry Dougall. It focuses on customer data and analytics, serving sectors with large consumer bases and complex customer journeys, including utilities, retail, banking and telecommunications.

For Accenture, the purchase expands the reach of Accenture Song in the UK and Ireland across strategy, design, implementation and operations. The combination is intended to help clients connect customer data, artificial intelligence tools and operational systems in programmes tied to retention, revenue growth and more tailored customer services.

The acquisition comes as consulting and technology groups seek a bigger role in how companies use customer data after an initial wave of experimentation with generative AI. Businesses in regulated and competitive sectors are under pressure to improve customer retention while finding new sources of growth, particularly where service levels and pricing are under close scrutiny.

Accenture has used acquisitions for several years to build specialist teams in areas such as cloud, cybersecurity, design and data. The Sagacity deal continues that approach, with a focus on customer intelligence and operations in the UK market.

Client demand is increasingly centred on linking data, AI and operations into unified programmes that produce measurable business results. Bringing Sagacity into Accenture Song adds people and data expertise in a market where companies are trying to turn customer information into operational decisions more quickly.

Sagacity brings data assets, technology and customer intelligence expertise to the enlarged business. Those strengths will be combined with Accenture's industry, technology and customer operations teams to support work spanning strategy, design, implementation and ongoing operations.

The move also underlines the growing importance of customer intelligence in industries with large customer bases. In banking, retail, utilities and telecoms, companies are managing rising customer expectations while trying to reduce churn and protect revenue, creating demand for more detailed analysis of customer behaviour and service needs.

Sohel Aziz, senior managing director at Accenture Song UK and Ireland, said the transaction reflected what clients are asking for as they try to make practical use of AI alongside existing data and operating models.

"Our clients are increasingly looking to connect data, AI and operations to drive growth and reinvent customer experiences," said Sohel Aziz, senior managing director, Accenture Song, UK and Ireland. "Sagacity's deep expertise and outcome-focused approach will enhance our ability to help clients turn insight into action and achieve measurable results through intelligent customer operations. Together, we can help organizations move faster, make smarter decisions and create sustainable value."

Sagacity's leadership said the agreement would give the business wider reach through Accenture's scale in consulting, technology and managed services. The company has built its position around using customer data to help organisations identify where they can improve loyalty, service and commercial performance.

"Joining Accenture represents an exciting opportunity to accelerate the impact of our people, data and technology," said Anita Dougall, chief executive officer and co-founder of Sagacity. "By combining our expertise, data and know-how with Accenture's scale and innovation capabilities, we can help more organizations deliver meaningful business results."
