Business Buzz opens 2026 awards for small UK businesses
Wed, 8th Jul 2026 (Today)
The Business Buzz Awards have opened for 2026, inviting entries from small, medium and micro businesses across the UK.
The free-to-enter awards cover 10 categories recognising entrepreneurs, teams and organisations. Business Buzz, which says it has more than 22,000 active members, runs events in 60 locations nationwide.
Businesses from all sectors can enter. Categories include Best Place to Work Award, Business Breakthrough Award, Community Hero Award, Innovation Award, Best Start-up Award and Business Leader 2026.
Other categories are Buzzer of the Year Award, Buzz Legend Award, Outstanding Buzz Group Award and Outstanding Buzz Venue. Winners and highly commended entrants will be notified before the ceremony, allowing them to attend knowing the outcome in advance.
Since launching in 2012, Business Buzz has expanded its networking operation. The organisation says it has hosted more than 3,500 events across the UK and welcomed more than 100,000 attendees over that period.
More than 150 businesses entered the awards last year. Previous winners include Nicola Weisfeld of Valuing Minds and Lightfoots Solicitors.
Judging panel
An independent panel of business leaders and industry figures from different sectors will assess the awards. Guest judges include Scott English, Founder of Elite Business; Julia Gregory, Chair and Non-Executive Director; Tanya Wheway, Chairman of Wheway Lifestyle International; and Jonathan Winchester, Founder of insight6.
The wider panel includes Glenn Cameron, Leigh Frost, Ian Kirsop, Mike Land, Emma Smith, and Business Buzz co-founders Simon George and Katrina Sargent. Sponsors for the 2026 awards are Dandi Health & Safety and DAM Risk Assessments.
Scott English said: "I am so excited to read the entries as a guest judge this year and see the variety of talent in SMEs and microbusiness across the UK. It's a big honour to help decide the winners amongst these talented enterprises."
Simon George added: "We're so excited to once again launch the Business Buzz Awards for another year. Seeing and supporting the wide range of talent across the country is such an honour, and I can't wait to celebrate the winners in our ceremony this year."
Business Buzz describes itself as a national networking community focused on accessible town-centre events without membership or pre-booking requirements. It says its monthly events now welcome more than 1,500 businesses across the UK.
The awards sit within a broader market of business competitions aimed at smaller companies seeking external recognition and local profile. By focusing on small, medium and micro businesses, the programme targets a segment that makes up most of the UK business population but often has fewer opportunities for national exposure than larger organisations.
For Business Buzz, the awards also extend a brand built around in-person networking into formal recognition for members and non-members. Categories such as Community Hero Award and Best Place to Work Award suggest an emphasis beyond financial growth alone, reflecting how many smaller companies now seek to highlight social contribution, workplace culture and resilience alongside commercial results.
The organisation's footprint has grown steadily over more than a decade, with activity spanning dozens of towns and cities. That reach gives the awards access to entrants from a wide range of local markets, from sole traders and early-stage ventures to established regional businesses.
With entries now open, the awards will test demand among smaller UK businesses for recognition schemes that combine sector breadth with local roots. Last year's total of more than 150 entries provides a benchmark as Business Buzz looks to attract submissions from across its national network and beyond.
