Celonis named process intelligence leader in Forrester’s 2025 report
Celonis has been named a Leader in Process Intelligence Software by analyst firm Forrester in its most recent evaluation of the sector.
The Forrester Wave: Process Intelligence Software, Q3 2025 report assessed 15 software vendors, examining them against 25 criteria which included categories such as current offering, strategy, and customer feedback.
In the evaluation, Celonis received the highest scores possible across 18 criteria, which notably included analytics and digital twins. According to the report, "Celonis is best suited to clients looking for a sophisticated platform that supports enterprise-wide process intelligence and control to transform operations."
Innovation recognised
Forrester acknowledged Celonis for its early adoption of technology in the process intelligence space, specifically mentioning its use of graph databases and an object-centric view of process performance. The report also cited Celonis' extended marketplace of partner-built solutions as a contributing factor to its leadership position.
Additionally, Celonis was noted for maintaining what the report called a "trailblazing role" in the sector, with clear and ongoing investment in artificial intelligence (AI) and automation. The report stated, "Celonis has excellent scores across nearly the whole board but is in the vanguard for innovation."
It further elaborated, "It was the first to pivot to graph databases to provide contextualised views of the potential for process improvement. It introduced an additional object-centric view of process performance, which is now paying off as a basis for AI agents and sustainable process improvement."
The report highlighted that, "Users can expect more AI-driven recommendations, faster data acquisition, and an extended marketplace for partner-built solutions on top of the Celonis platform."
Customer impact
Celonis' Process Intelligence platform features the integration of generative AI capabilities, including tools such as a data annotation builder and a Process Copilot. Customer feedback within the report recognised the sophistication and flexibility of the platform, as well as its orchestration and AI features.
The evaluation outlined that, "The product features prebuilt scenarios that allow novices to dive into analytics quickly without process management or data science mastery. In general, its features are state of the art, while improvement detection is sophisticated. Celonis has made environmental sustainability a core value, and its product enables users to measure and improve sustainability metrics."
Shifting market focus
According to Forrester, process intelligence software is evolving in terms of target audience and the business value provided. The report stated, "Previously, vendor messaging focused largely on the value of gaining visibility into processes in order to achieve operational and transformational improvements. Today, vendors mostly position process intelligence's value in terms of supporting concrete use cases, such as containing the cost of AI agents, cutting the cost of supply chain operations, or increasing customer satisfaction ratings."
It also observed that, "In line with this, vendors have added use-case-specific features and value packs and are positioning process intelligence software as a way to keep AI agents grounded, thanks to the curated process data it delivers."
"We are honoured to be named a Leader by Forrester. This recognition is only possible because of the dedication and commitment of our customers, partners and Celonauts," said Carsten Thoma, President and Board Director, Celonis.
Commenting further, Thoma said, "Enterprise AI is set to reinvent operations. To deliver on its full potential, AI needs to understand how each business runs and how to make it run better. Our Process Intelligence platform uniquely empowers customers to drive continuous operational improvement, implement effective AI solutions, and deliver measurable business outcomes."
The report also signals an increased focus from vendors on use-case-specific capabilities and the importance of curated data in supporting artificial intelligence agents. Celonis' positioning in this evaluation was supported by highest possible scores in structure, innovation, vision, and roadmap criteria.
