Ecommpay has been shortlisted for three Retail Systems Awards, reaching the finals in payments and fraud prevention categories.
The company is in the running for Payments System of the Year, the Payments Innovation Award and Fraud Prevention Solution of the Year. The recognition focuses on its payment products and in-house fraud controls.
Founded in 2012 and headquartered in London, Ecommpay is a payment service provider offering acquiring, payment processing and orchestration through a single API. It also supports more than 100 payment methods and has built products including open banking, recurring billing and direct debits into its platform rather than relying on third-party systems.
Fraud focus
A central part of the shortlisting is Ecommpay's Risk Control System, or RCS. The system includes Graph Analysis, a tool designed to identify links between fraudulent transactions so related activity can be stopped together rather than one by one.
Ecommpay has continued to refine its anti-fraud measures while aiming to avoid harming merchant conversion rates. That balance between tighter controls and a smoother customer journey has become a key issue for payment providers, as retailers try to limit fraud losses without adding too much friction at checkout.
Payments providers face growing pressure to tackle increasingly complex fraud patterns, particularly as merchants expand into new markets and add more payment options. They are also competing on checkout design, payout speed and mobile access, where user experience can directly affect completed transactions.
Ecommpay's recent product work has included changes aimed at improving payouts and reducing the time it takes consumers to complete a purchase. It also highlighted access to preferred cards on mobile devices and a simplified checkout process as part of the work behind the recognition.
Willem Wellinghoff, UK Chair of Ecommpay, commented on the shortlisting and the company's recent product development.
"Our commitment to innovation and ongoing development has brought Ecommpay clients and their customers a more streamlined payout experience in the past 12 months. From instant access to preferred cards on any mobile device, to a simplified checkout journey and reduced time to checkout. To be shortlisted for these three awards is an honour and an important recognition of the important work of our entire team to bring the best payments experience to our clients and their customers," said Willem Wellinghoff, UK Chair of Ecommpay.
Sector context
The Retail Systems Awards focus on technology and service providers working with the retail sector. A place on the shortlist can raise the profile of payment companies in a market where merchants weigh fraud controls, settlement options, integration complexity and acceptance coverage when selecting providers.
For Ecommpay, the three-category recognition highlights both transaction processing and risk management, two areas retailers increasingly assess together. For many merchants, particularly those operating online, payment acceptance alone is no longer enough, as chargebacks, account takeover attempts and organised fraud rings can quickly erode margins.
Ecommpay positions its business around a single-stack model that combines payment options with operational tools and proprietary fraud technology. The approach reflects a wider trend in payments, with providers trying to offer more of the merchant workflow in one place, including acceptance, routing, recurring payments and monitoring.
Ecommpay is authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority under the Payment Services Regulations and is a principal member of Mastercard and Visa. Its platform is also certified to Level 1 PCI DSS, a card industry data security standard.
The shortlist places Ecommpay among payment and retail technology groups competing for recognition in a sector where fraud prevention and checkout design have become closely linked commercial issues.
