Nuvei and BlackLine have partnered to embed payment acceptance into BlackLine's invoice-to-cash platform. The integration is already live with enterprise customers.

The partnership lets businesses using BlackLine accept payments directly within invoice workflows and automatically match those payments to open receivables. It is intended to remove separate payment steps that often sit outside finance systems.

Many finance teams have moved invoicing, accounts receivable and reporting into digital platforms, but payment collection and reconciliation often remain fragmented. That gap can slow collections, increase manual processing and make it harder for finance leaders to track cash positions as invoices move through the cycle.

Under the deal, enterprises can accept cards, bank transfers and local payment methods on the invoice itself. They can also track payment status in real time, give customers a single place to view or query an invoice, and collect funds in 150 currencies across more than 190 markets.

The integration expands BlackLine's role in the invoice-to-cash process by combining invoice presentment, payment acceptance and automated reconciliation in one system. For large organisations handling high volumes of invoices across multiple countries, that could reduce the need for staff to re-key payment data between platforms.

Phil Fayer, Chair and Chief Executive Officer of Nuvei, outlined the rationale for the deal.

"Payments should feel like a natural extension of the invoice-to-cash process, not a separate workflow. Finance teams expect it to work inside the systems they already use to manage receivables, collections, and cash flow. By partnering with BlackLine, we are embedding Nuvei's global payments infrastructure directly into those workflows to help enterprises accelerate collections, improve visibility, and reduce complexity," Fayer said.

The partnership comes as finance departments face growing pressure to improve liquidity management while keeping tighter control over back-office operations. Companies are looking for ways to shorten the time between issuing an invoice and receiving cleared funds, particularly as treasurers and chief financial officers seek better oversight of working capital.

Embedded payments

The move reflects a broader push across business software to integrate payments more tightly into operational systems rather than treat them as a separate activity. In invoice-to-cash, that means linking invoice delivery, payment acceptance, remittance data and reconciliation in the same workflow so finance teams can see when an invoice has been opened, queried, paid and posted.

Nuvei has been expanding the use of its payment services within platforms businesses rely on for core financial processes. BlackLine, which focuses on tools for the Office of the Chief Financial Officer, serves more than 4,300 customers across industries, giving Nuvei access to companies that already use digital systems for accounting and receivables management.

For BlackLine, adding integrated payment acceptance could make its invoice-to-cash platform more central to daily finance operations. Rather than sending customers to an external payment page or relying on manual bank reconciliation, users can keep invoicing, payment collection and matching in one place.

Andy Liley, Managing Director of Invoice-to-Cash at BlackLine, said the change is intended to bring payment collection closer to the rest of the receivables process.

"Finance leaders are under increasing pressure to improve cash flow while operating more efficiently. Offering flexibility in customer payment receipts plays a critical role in that process, yet it has often remained separate from the systems used to manage invoicing, collections, and receivables. This partnership brings those capabilities together, helping customers streamline invoice-to-cash operations while delivering a better payment experience," Liley said.

Finance workflow

Incoming payments can be matched to receivables automatically without manual keying. That matters because reconciliation has long been one of the most labour-intensive parts of finance operations, especially when payment references are incomplete, or funds arrive through different methods and banking channels.

Automatic matching can help reduce exceptions that require manual investigation, although the practical impact will depend on how well customer payment data aligns with invoice records. Even so, embedding payment acceptance in invoice workflows points to a shift in how enterprise finance software vendors and payment groups are positioning their services.

As more businesses seek integrated systems for collections and cash management, partnerships between payment companies and finance software providers are likely to become more common. In this case, the tie-up gives BlackLine customers access to payment collection across a wide geographic footprint while keeping the process within existing receivables workflows.

Nuvei's network supports local acquiring in 52 markets and more than 720 alternative payment methods, alongside support for 150 currencies and operations in more than 190 markets.
