Over 12 million Brits to explore AI skills by 2025
A new survey reveals that over 12 million UK consumers are planning to learn more about Artificial Intelligence (AI) in 2025, indicating a growing interest in engagement with the technology.
Research commissioned by Tech Show London highlights a noticeable shift towards understanding AI, with nearly half of the surveyed participants (46%) agreeing that AI will fundamentally change our relationship with technology. This sentiment aligns with a statement made by Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella about AI's transformative potential.
According to the survey, 30% of those who have not yet engaged with AI express concerns about falling behind academically or professionally if they do not begin learning about it by 2025. Amongst younger adults aged 25-34, this figure rises to 39%, while it drops to 24% for those over 55. This data reflects a pivotal moment as AI continues to advance.
Despite frequent interactions with AI, such as through search engines, online apps, and smart devices, 22% admit to not engaging with AI in a typical week. However, many are unknowingly using AI-powered solutions, which underlines the often seamless integration of AI into daily activities. The survey also reveals a cautionary stance among some users, as 41% of participants feel more concerned than excited about AI. Notably, younger generations show a more enthusiastic approach, with 45% noting increased AI use this year.
Approximately 28% of those surveyed express a desire to 'master AI' in 2025, a figure that rises to 37% among the 25-34 age bracket. Consequently, learning about AI is increasingly becoming a common New Year's resolution, with 23% of respondents planning to focus on mastering AI in the forthcoming year.
There appears to be a generational divide in AI adoption, with younger generations leading the charge while older individuals remain more tentative; only 15% of those over 55 have increased their AI usage this year.
Cyber security experts anticipate significant developments in 2025, driven by the dual role AI plays in creating and mitigating security threats. AI's integration into threat detection and response systems is expected to be a key conversation point, as this technology becomes essential for countering sophisticated cyber-attacks.
Despite its benefits, AI's integration into security systems raises concerns about emerging vulnerabilities. "As AI becomes more embedded in security infrastructure, the risk of AI-driven cyber-attacks increases," says Jake Moore, a cyber security expert. "In 2025, businesses must ensure they're not only utilising AI to protect data but also securing their systems against AI-based threats."
Tech Show London 2025 will delve into these issues, providing a forum for innovators, experts, and industry leaders to discuss AI's future and its implications for data privacy, ethics, and security. This event aims to shed light on both the opportunities AI presents and the challenges it poses.
Jake Moore emphasises the importance of understanding AI's potential and risks: "AI is undeniably reshaping industries, but with its growing adoption comes significant concerns, especially around data security. We must be mindful of the potential risks and ensure that cyber defence systems evolve to meet these new challenges. 2025 will be a pivotal year for understanding AI's full potential whilst maintaining robust security measures."
Simon Press, Portfolio Director at Tech Show London, underscores the significance of AI in the current landscape, stating, "As we look ahead to 2025, it's clear that AI is not just a buzzword—it's a critical technology that will impact how we work, learn, and interact with the world around us. At Tech Show London, we'll be bringing together leaders and innovators from across the tech sector to explore both the exciting opportunities and the challenges AI presents. This research reflects how many people are realising the importance of understanding AI, and we are excited to help equip them for this transformative journey."
Tech Show London 2025 will take place at Excel London, aiming to provide insights into AI, cyber security, and digital innovation through a broad range of expert discussions and explorations.
