Ecommpay has added VietQR to its payments platform for merchant partners, giving them access to a payment method widely used by shoppers in Vietnam.

VietQR connects more than 2 million businesses with 50 million registered users across Vietnam and more than 60 participating banks. The network handles hundreds of millions of transactions each month.

The addition expands the range of alternative payment methods available through Ecommpay, which offers more than 100 local and global payment options. Merchants using the platform can now offer Vietnamese customers a QR-based payment option through banking apps and supported digital wallets.

For shoppers, the process allows payment from a bank account or supported Vietnamese e-wallet without entering card details or downloading another app. Payment details are shown in Vietnamese dong for review and approval.

Vietnam focus

VietQR is preferred by about 70% of shoppers in Vietnam. That matters for merchants selling across borders into the market, where local payment choice can influence whether a purchase is completed.

Transactions made through VietQR on the Ecommpay platform can be settled in EUR or USD, depending on the merchant's preference. Settlement can typically take place on the next business day, and payment status is updated once a transaction is confirmed.

The payment option is available on desktop and mobile. Under VietQR's interoperable model, merchants can display a single QR code and let customers choose whether to pay through their bank or a supported digital wallet.

Max Ryzhov, Chief Product Officer at Ecommpay, said customer payment preferences remain a key issue for online merchants. "Customers will often abandon a purchase if they cannot pay with their preferred local payment method, so we are committed to offering as many payment methods as possible," Ryzhov said.

He said the rollout supports the company's push to help merchants sell more easily into Vietnam. "With VietQR now available for our merchant partners to add to their payment options, we are helping merchants reach more Vietnamese customers. VietQR provides our merchant partners with an easy way to expand into the Vietnamese market and its growing digital payments market by offering local customers a smoother and more familiar checkout," Ryzhov said.

Founded in 2012 and headquartered in London, Ecommpay provides acquiring, payment processing and orchestration through a single API, with services spanning global and local payment methods.

The addition also gives merchants another way to adapt their checkout experience to local buying habits. For businesses entering Vietnam, supporting familiar payment methods can reduce friction during the payment stage.

VietQR can be presented alongside other payment options, allowing shoppers to select the method they prefer. The integration is designed to support transactions without requiring merchants to establish separate local payment connections. It also gives international merchants access to a payment network already embedded in Vietnam's banking and digital commerce ecosystem.

As QR-based payments continue to grow, merchants are increasingly adding them alongside cards and other alternative payment methods. Ecommpay said its broader payment offering is intended to help merchants manage different payment preferences across markets. The company supports payment methods across regions through its single platform and API infrastructure. For merchants targeting Vietnamese consumers, the addition provides another option for accepting local payments while settling funds in major currencies.

The rollout forms part of Ecommpay's wider focus on expanding local payment coverage for international commerce.
