Experian launches postcode credit score app in ChatGPT
Experian has launched a credit score app inside ChatGPT, which it says is the first such tool in the UK within the platform's app ecosystem.
The app offers a postcode-based credit score comparison using aggregated and anonymised Experian Credit Score data. It shows typical scores across postcode areas and age groups, giving users a benchmark to compare with their own sense of their financial position.
The app is searchable in ChatGPT via @Experian UK. Experian said the launch is part of a wider effort to increase transparency around credit scores and encourage more regular engagement with credit information.

How it works
The tool displays average credit scores by age band and postcode area, but it does not provide individual credit scores within ChatGPT. Instead, it offers comparisons and directs users to a separate sign-up process if they want to check their personal Experian credit score.
Experian described the experience as conversational, using a chat interface to navigate benchmarking data and guide users through options, including registration for personal score access.
Target audience
The launch targets people who already use conversational AI for general questions, including money-related topics. Experian cited ChatGPT user demographics, saying 18-34-year-olds account for more than half of the platform's user base, and noted that younger adults are among the least likely to have checked their credit score.
Experian also cited research suggesting 92% of adults have low financial capability, arguing that an AI chat interface can provide a more accessible way to engage with financial information at an individual pace.
Data and governance
The app uses aggregated and anonymised Experian Credit Score data. Averages by postcode and age group reduce the risk of identifying individuals compared with approaches that return personal credit information in-chat.
Experian described its credit score as the UK's most trusted and said the app supports a strategy focused on "secure, intelligent experiences" across external AI platforms.
Platform shift
The move reflects a broader trend in consumer finance as users increasingly seek answers through conversational interfaces rather than traditional websites or apps. For credit bureaus and personal finance brands, this shift increases demand for tools that can operate safely in generative AI environments without exposing sensitive personal data.
It also highlights a change in product distribution. Instead of relying only on dedicated destinations, firms are publishing tools inside third-party platforms where people already spend time.
For OpenAI's ChatGPT, adding credit-related benchmarking apps expands its growing catalogue of consumer services. The wider market has faced increased scrutiny over how AI products present financial information, especially where advice, affordability, or regulated activity might be inferred from a tool's outputs.
Experian described the app as contextual and educational, focused on comparisons and general benchmarks rather than personalised lending outcomes or recommendations.
Edu Castro, Managing Director of Experian Consumer Services UK&I, said: "By bringing the power of Experian's trusted data into a leading AI platform, we're giving people a quick and simple way to explore how their credit score compares locally and by age - making it easier for them to sign up to Experian to discover their personalised score and insights. This launch is only the first step, it's an important milestone in our strategy to provide secure, intelligent experiences wherever people choose to engage with us, and a significant step in bringing the UK's most trusted credit score to more people."
Experian said the launch is the first step in a broader plan to distribute services across external AI platforms.
