Legal Brokers launches iDWallet app for UK ID checks

Fri, 13th Feb 2026

Legal Brokers has launched iDWallet.com, a digital identity verification app that uses facial biometrics and liveness detection to check individuals and businesses. The ID checking feature is currently available in the UK, with plans to expand to other markets.

The launch comes as regulated sectors face tighter anti-money laundering requirements and increased scrutiny over identity fraud. Legal Brokers cited figures showing the compliance workload in property transactions, putting the average number of separate identity checks per transaction at 5.4. It also pointed to more than 250,000 reported ID fraud cases in 2024.

iDWallet.com compares a live image of a user with the photo on their identity document and uses liveness detection during the process. The approach aims to reduce the use of stolen documents, impersonation, and replay attacks using static images.

Legal Brokers says the app is designed for situations where organisations need to confirm a customer's identity, including property purchases, account opening, and age verification.

"Whether you're buying a home, opening an account, or simply confirming your age, identity checks should be fast, secure, and transparent. By combining biometric verification with around-the-clock accessibility, we're helping individuals and businesses complete these essential steps with ease," said Jon Hilton, director at Legal Brokers.

What checks include

Each iDWallet.com check includes screening for politically exposed persons and sanctions. It also includes address and mortality verification, HALO checks, liveness detection, and biometric verification.

Checks typically complete within minutes. Once verified, users can keep a digital identity wallet to reuse for subsequent transactions and services.

iDWallet.com also includes a personal wallet function for individuals who want to store documents on a mobile phone. The app can hold travel passes, loyalty cards, and other documents in one place, and this functionality is free for everyday use.

Data handling

Legal Brokers says iDWallet.com stores user data on the individual's device and restricts access to the user. It says it does not store passwords or user data on its own systems, and that identity information remains tied to the user's mobile device.

The company says its approach aligns with UK anti-money laundering rules. It also links the product's focus to law enforcement efforts against identity fraud and financial crime, referencing the National Crime Agency's stated mission in this area.

Biometric checks have become more common across financial services, property, and other regulated industries as remote onboarding grows. Organisations in these sectors often balance fraud prevention requirements with pressure to reduce friction for customers. Digital identity products also sit alongside government and industry efforts to standardise how attributes such as name, address, and age are verified and shared.

Legal Brokers operates in the UK legal services supply chain and provides marketing services and solutions to law firms. It also lists services including property searches, indemnity insurance, web design, PPC management, case management, and conveyancing quote software.

iDWallet.com is also pitched on usability as well as compliance. One user, identified only as Katie, described her experience adopting the service.

"Can I also just say that I really do enjoy how easy iDWallet.com is to work with! You have made dealing with compliance so much easier, and I could kick myself all over Greater Manchester for not availing myself of your services earlier!" said Katie.

iDWallet.com's identity checking service is available for UK use at launch, and Legal Brokers plans to extend availability beyond the UK in future.
